This tribute is extra special as it also kicks off the Gerry Anderson Music Bursary, backed by a generous ÂŁ3,000 from IMRO. Talk about leaving a legacy! Now, if youâre not familiar with Gerry, let me fill you in. He was a powerhouse on the airwaves â think of your favorite, hilarious uncle who also happens to be a musical genius. Starting his radio career at BBC Radio Foyle back in ’84, Gerry was the voice you turned to for the best laugh-out-loud moments and jam-packed musical segments. From hosting to producing a TV show inspired by his craziest on-air moments, he was all about sharing the love for local talent. But wait, thereâs more! Not just a broadcaster, Gerry was also an accomplished musician. He strummed his way through some local bands in the ’60s, jammed with the likes of Ronnie Hawkins in Canada, and formed bands that rocked the Irish circuit.
His support for emerging artists throughout his radio maverick days was unparalleled. Gerry’s son, David, expressed heartfelt gratitude for this honor, calling it a wonderful tribute to his fatherâs legacy of nurturing local artists. You won’t want to miss this poignant celebration of music and creativity. So, grab your tickets for the NI Music Prize â theyâre available now! But hurry, they may sell out fast!
